Keeping your conservatory cool in summer

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

With summer fast approaching and the weather steadily improving, the barbeques come out and the shorts are put on. It’s the perfect time to enjoy that conservatory that you invested in and relax in the early evening sun. However, conservatories are mostly made of glass and being surrounded by double glazing will have a similar effect to sitting in a greenhouse. Therefore, we have provided some tips on keeping it cool so that you can use it all year round.

Blinds

One of the most popular options is to use blinds in your conservatory. These can easily be adjusted to block out the sun light or to keep the heat in, helping to maintain a more comfortable temperature. They are also useful when it comes to adding some privacy to the room and prevent it from feeling exposed to your neighbours. Roof blinds are also available to prevent sun light from entering the top of the conservatory. Why not add a bit of colour and make your blinds a major feature in the room.

Ventilation

As the temperature increases, keeping your conservatory well ventilated is an important step towards keeping it cool. This involves opening the windows, and possibly even the doors. The top windows provide the best insulation as heat rises. Why not also add a fan in the room to keep the air moving and provide a pleasant temperature for your conservatory.

Plants

Having well watered plants helps to keep the air moist. The moisture in the air will help your conservatory feel cooler. Alternatively, you could have a vase full of flowers or some glasses of water for guests.

Air conditioning

This may be considered an extreme option, but is also one of the most effective ones. An air conditioning unit will keep your conservatory at a steady temperature. This can also be used in the winter to keep it the room warm. The main drawbacks are that air conditioning units are expensive to run and they can also be noisy, which will affect your attempts to relax.

Intelligent glass roof

At Bebington Glass, we can offer a number of intelligent glass options that can help keep your conservatory cool. These will block out ultra-violet rays as well as up to 75% of the sun’s heat, creating a more pleasant temperature in the room.

Window films

Window films are a cheaper option than using intelligent glass, but can be just as effective. The film is applied to the existing double glazing unit for a range of purposes, including keeping out heat and UV rays. They can also make the glass tougher, which offers extra protection from intruders.

Benefits of Composite Doors

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014

First impressions are important and when it comes to your home, the front door is the first thing people will see. When considering what type of door that you want for your home, you should consider strength, maintenance, security and looks. A popular option is UPVC doors, which are strong and relatively maintenance free. However, their appearance can be very generic and leave little room to give your home the wow factor. Wooden and glass doors can provide the look you are looking for, but lack the security and low maintenance that other doors provide. Another option is composite doors, which are rising in popularity and can give your home all the style and security that you need.

What is a composite door?

Composite doors use a range of materials, including timber, polyurethane foam, aluminium inserts and an outer skin of glass reinforced plastic (GRP). This creates a strong and easily customisable door that has many benefits. Some of them include:

Weather resistance – The GRP layer on the door makes it highly resistant to any type of weather, such as wind of rain and will not crack like wood can. The aluminium inserts also help to prevent warping and twisting over time.

Resistant to denting – The GRP layer is extremely durable and will resist scratches and dents, ensuring that they can be used for many years.

High level of insulation – The polyurethane foam core provides a warm and cosy home and helps to protect the environment and lower your bills.

Easily replace the glass – Composite doors are available with glass inserts to make them more visually appealing. If the glass is broken, it can be easily replaced without having to remove the entire frame.

Never have to be painted – It is recommended to treat wooden or varnished doors every 5 years. Whilst composite doors have the appearance of painted wood, the colour will not fade and only requires the occasional wipe to keep it clean.

Available in a wide range of colours – The GRP layer can be injected with any colour and finished in a range of styles. This allows for a painted wood effect to match your home. The interior colours can also be left white to match your décor

Security! – Composite doors are a fantastic way to protect your home from intruders. The core materials used absorb impact and are incredibly tough. The GRP layer is virtually unbreakable and resistant to dents and scratches. This creates a formidable barrier against those who wish to gain unauthorised entry.

Add value to your home - In a competitive property market, you need you house to stand out from the crowd. Give potential buyers the best first impression by providing a front door that is strong, secure and looks good.

Quality glazing is an important part of any commercial structure, with many benefits that are both aesthetic and practical. As well as making your place of business look good, some of the other benefits include:

  • Reduces heating bills in the winter
  • Reduces cooling and air conditioning costs in the summer
  • Increased safety for employees and customers
  • Improved security
  • Easier maintenance

There are various types of glass and fitting options available to suit various specific needs of the organisation. At Bebington Glass we work with you to find the best option to benefit your business or organisation. We have many years of experience with high profile client across the Wirral and North West so you can be confident in choosing us.

Some of the glazing options that we provide include:

Commercial Windows – Using the correct materials in the frames is the most important aspect of installing commercial windows. This allows us to create a stronger structure that supports slimmer frames and larger glass panes. Toughened or laminated glass is often used in commercial windows to add extra security and protect the safety of those around.

Commercial Doors – Glass doors to enter your place of business can come in a range of different styles to suit your requirements; from simple hinged designs to automatic sliding and revolving doors. It is essential that these doors maintain the highest levels of security for the building, which is achieved via a combination of the right choice of glass and high quality frames and hinges.

Shop Fronts – For your business or organisation, first impressions are extremely important and your shop front is the first thing that your customers will see. We will work with you to create the design that best suits your business and is most likely to impress your customers and clients. We use only the best materials and techniques for a superior finish.

Glass Balustrades – Use balustrades to add a stunning modern effect to your glazing in a number of areas, including balconies and stairs. Available in both framed and frameless options, they can create a dramatic look to the room, whilst maximising the amount of light and creating the illusion of extra space.

As well as the fitting of the glass units, there are a number of extras that can benefit your business. Tinted windows are available, but window films are a cost effective way control the levels of heat and UV radiation entering the room. This makes the inside temperature easier to control and improves the working environment, as well as lowering the bills. Toughened glass can improve the security of the building and increase the safety to staff, customers and clients.

Benefits of UPVC Sash Windows

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Windows wirral

Traditional sash windows are a common sight in period buildings and were very fashionable in Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian times. Not only are they an attractive feature in older properties, but they are a distinctive feature of traditional British architecture. Therefore, many owners of period properties can be very reluctant to modernise their home to enjoy all the benefits that UPVC double glazed windows can provide. The modern look of the windows may not suit the traditional appearance of the house and the overall property may look mismatched. As a worst case scenario, getting the wrong windows installed could even lower the value of the home if they look out of place.

However, getting UPVC sash windows installed can allow you to enjoy all the benefits that modern double glazing provides, without compromising the aesthetics of the period property. Modern sash windows can mimic the appearance of their traditional timber counterparts to be able to match the classic appearance of the property perfectly.

UPVC sash windows have a number of benefits that their older single glazed counterparts do not have. Some of the examples include:

Easy to Open

Many older sash windows can be difficult to open. Because wood expands and contracts, the window can either be stiff to open or it can move from side to side as it lifts up. Modern UPVC sash windows are not susceptible to expansion and contraction and have a counterbalancing system to ensure that they will always be easy to open and close.

Excellent Energy Efficiency

The superior insulation of double glazed windows will lower heating bills, reduce your carbon footprint and prevent noise entering from outside. The result is a warmer and more comfortable home with no draughts.

Less Condensation

The inside pane of a double glazing unit is warmer than that of single glazing, which helps to prevent condensation from forming. This result is boosted by the airtight seal around the window.  The result is a cleaner home, where mould has less opportunity to develop.

Superior ventilation

Many UPVC sash windows can open at the top and the bottom. In hot summer months, opening both ends creates a cycle of cool air entering at the bottom and warm air exiting at the top. This results in a cooler and more comfortable room.

Low maintenance

As with all UPVC windows, there is very little maintenance required to keep the unit in top condition. Occasional cleaning is all that is required.

Many styles available

There are many designs available so you can be sure to find a window that will suit your home perfectly. Different styles of UPVC sash window can be integrated throughout your home, including the conservatory or porch.

Add Value to your home

When looking to buy a new home, prospective buyers who are looking for a traditional looking home will also expect all the luxuries that a modern home should provide. UPVC sash windows ticks both boxes and will make your home easier to sell when the time comes.

Wirral Couple Win Big!

Monday, February 3rd, 2014

At Bebington Glass, we are delighted to announce the latest lucky winners of the Saint-Gobain Glass’ final cashback competition were John and Edna Cromby of Bebington in the Wirral. They took home a cheque for a whopping £5,850 and we couldn’t be happier for them.

window_cashback_winners

They are the latest winners in the quarterly draw to give customers to win back the cost of their glazing installation. Over the last 3 years, there have been ten winners, taking home a total of over £60,000.

We understand that that double glazing and doors are expensive. So much so that when the Crombys used the money they were planning to spend on a cruise to pay for the installation of their front windows and door. When we fitted their double glazing, we entered the couple into the nationwide cashback competition, where they could win back the cost of their installation. Not only are we delighted that the winners are from the Wirral, but we are also ecstatic that our very own customers are the lucky winners. In fact, our owner Kay even admitted to shaking with excitement when she heard that the Crombys had won. It gave her great pleasure to when she called them to break the news:

“When I called the Cromby’s it was John who took the call. He told me his wife was out having a pedicure and that she’d be excited to learn of the win. I laughed and told him that he should call her and tell her to get a manicure as well being that they’d just won a cheque for £5,850.”

The Cromby’s couldn’t believe their luck when we called them. “I thought it was a joke at first,” admitted John. “When I got the call I thought perhaps something was wrong with the windows or the installation. We’ve never won anything before but it seems as if good luck comes in twos besides as this week I also won £200 at the local pub.”

Since the couple had originally planned to spend the money on a cruise, they now plan on booking another. At Bebington Glass, we are delighted to have helped put a smile on their face.
